After playing 2 years ago for the first time music from the Philippines in radio, today, let´s discover Astra - an Metalcore band from Manila!
Back story
Founded in 2020 at the pearl of the orient Manila, the members are based in the capital and main island of the Philippines. The archipelagic island country in Southeast Asia consists of over 7,600 islands in total.
The capital sets the band on a musical journey to innovate, explore and define the future of the local Metal/core genre.
Just as the name suggests, stars shine the brightest, while they at the same time emitting an enormous amount of energy. This is the perfect literal and metaphorical core idea of the band's identity, as they are fueled by their fiery passion for music. The sound of the band is divergent, as it ranges from being complex, fast, heavy, and ambient as emphasized with their single releases of 'Open Your Eyes' and 'Resolute'.
Besides the typical core influences, you can hear as well different backgrounds of Progressive or Electronic sounds. ASTRA is currently in the process of recording their debut EP album "The Raveling".
They are just at the beginning on their journey. Looking forward, to what comes next!

Q1: For someone, who gets new into your music - how would you describe your band in Genre/ background in some words?
ASTRA is a musical experience and an amalgamation of emotional, heavy, and ambient with progressive elements.
Q2: How is the process in your latest releases - your thoughts, musical influences?
In light of Chrome’s passing, the band highlights his late works and recordings through the release of ‘Resolute’. Further immortalizing his legacy and memories through music videos and his cherished moments with the band.
Q3: Can you explain us a bit about the scene in your local area?
The local scene that ASTRA plays with is very diverse, supportive, and inclusive which makes the music community very intimate, in which no matter the differences of all people, their love for music is what bridges the gaps between them.
Q4: What are your future plans?
ASTRA will transition into much heavier music, release more music videos, and contents.
